Editorial Policy The regional focus The journal is focussed on the Caribbean region. Articles should relate to the region broadly defined, including all the islands in the Caribbean Basin, territories which border the Caribbean Sea (including The Bahamas), and the Guianas. Articles on themes relating to places outside the region are considered for publication if there is a Caribbean perspective. An example would be a paper relating to the Caribbean diaspora in Europe or north America. Similarly, articles that include Caribbean material (either from the sciences or the social sciences) but which are set in a broader context, such as intra-regional comparisons or global processes, are also acceptable. Subject matter We publish articles on a wide range of topics as they relate to the field of geography and its cognate disciplines, including the Caribbean environment and the development process, the various specialisms within planning and resource management, and the earth sciences. For a comprehensive view of the scope of the journal we suggest you inspect the subject index on this website Research or review articles? Manuscripts published range through articles on applied research to review themes, as well as policy issues and theoretical and conceptual discussion. We will also publish papers based on research-in-progress if their contents are of merit and interest to the journal's readership. Who can submit manuscripts? Manuscript submission is not restricted to professional geographers. Other contributors have included planners, economists, sociologists, anthropologists, geologists, botanists, and zoologists. The majority of authors are academics based in tertiary institutions, but other professionals from the public and private sectors in international, regional and national arenas also have published their work in CG. We welcome submissions from school teachers and postgraduate students nearing completion of their projects. Peer review All articles are subject to international peer review by referees residing both inside and outside the region. Normally two referees are used for each manuscript submitted. How to submit manuscripts? Authors wishing to submit articles should send the manuscripts to: Dr David Barker (Editor), Department of Geography and Geology, University of the West Indies, Mona campus, Kingston email dbarker@uwimona.edu.jm
Notes for Contributors: Guidelines for Manuscripts These guidelines are also printed on the inside back cover of each issue of the journal Articles should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere Typescript: Two copies should be submitted, typed on one side of the paper only, with double spacing and wide margins. Papers are refereed anonymously so the first page after the title page should be headed with the title only and not the name of the author. Title page: A separate title page should include title, name and position of the author, academic or professional affiliation, and full address with FAX number if available. Summary: The summary should be no more than 350 words and be typed on a separate sheet. Figures: Black and white figures supplied by the author should be drawn to professional standards, suitable for reproduction, and in appropriate proportions for reduction. Figure captions should not appear on the artwork because captions are typeset separately. Captions for figures should be listed on a separate sheet. Tables: They should be typed double spaced, using only a few horizontal lines and no vertical lines. They should appear after the main text in a word processed document Photographs: Black and white photos are acceptable if they are essential to the text and of good quality. Captions to photographs should be submitted on a separate sheet. Footnotes: Should be avoided. Endnotes should be used sparingly if they are needed, numbered consecutively, and appear after the text and immediately before the reference list. References: The Harvard system is used for references. Author's names (no initials) and dates are given in the body of the text. e.g. (Eyre, 1984; Beckford, 1972). References are listed alphabetically at the end of the article and typed double spaced: e.g. Eyre, L.A. (1984) `Political Violence and Urban Geography in Kingston, Jamaica', Geographical Review, 74, 24-37. Beckford, G.L. (1972) Persistent Poverty: Underdevelopment in Plantation Economies of the Third World, New York: Oxford University Press. See any recent issue of Caribbean Geography for guidance. Disk submission: After an article has been accepted for publication, a copy on diskette or floppy disk will facilitate publication. Technical specifications will be communicated during correspondence.
